Laguna Seca Superbike Concorso and Ducati Island 2008
Story by Vicki Smith Photos by Vicki Smith and and the ever excellent Steve Leukenech.
Here's what he had to say: My 996 started out yellow and abused before I bought it in 2006, and has since been restored in two stages, out of what most likely will be a minimum of four stages. I have refinished every piece on this bike that I could remove, and replaced all the worn parts. The Carbon Fiber bodywork is painted with a Red transparent paint that allows the Carbon to read through the paint, and the Black number plates are also semi-transparent. All work so far has been done by owner and on a pretty tight budget. Of course this bike has all the upgrades you would expect on a Ducati, but with a slightly differentpresentation than what most Ducatisti are used to seeing. The motor is stock (for now) with 18k original miles on it. This 996 did have a Carbon fuel tank to go with the full carbon theme but has been removed to be repaired for leakage. This bike is not a garage or trailer queen in any sense of the word - it is ridden to work, play, and anywhere else I can take her ( like Laguna Seca every year for the US Moto GP!).
