Jack Newell sent this over the top 999R from Louisiana to take home the top prize in Modified. This one's in the dictionary under "sleeper". Here's the description, see for yourself:
2005 Ducati 999R
This 999R Superbike has many performance modifications designed to enhance the overall level of performance and sophistication of the machine while still closely resembling a factory prepared Ducati motorcycle.
Modifications include:
Termignoni 57mm Full system exhaust with Titanium canister & racing ECU along with a fully custom mapped Dynojet Power Commander, properly setup and blue-printed fuel-injection system and large diameter carbon fiber racing air ducts to fully optimize performance and rideability through the billet quick-turn racing throttle. An STM slipper clutch and billet clutch slave cylinder with a Ducati Performance vented clutch cover allows for improved corner entry on both street and track and the proper dry clutch sounds to be thoroughly enjoyed through the rare corse style vented magnesium clutch side cover! With a dyno-tested and very real 150 horsepower at the rear wheel, this is a very acceleration happy 999R!
Building on an already excellent platform, weight savings, handling and looks have been improved with the addition of beautiful and lightweight BST carbon fiber 5-spoke wheels, Titanium wheel axles, 520 chain & sprocket conversion with a Regina gold-link racing chain and 15/40 gearing. Beautiful billet 27mm triple clamps in conjunction with the steering angle set to 23.5 degrees, properly setup ride height, swingarm length, revalved and properly sprung Ohlins suspension with hydraulic preload adjustment on the rear shock achieve a very light steering motorcycle while still retaining the legendary Ducati stability.
The braking system is a highlight of the 999R and is of World Superbike caliber. Rare & exquisite Moto Corse Racing billet fork lowers with 108mm caliper spacing and remote compression adjustment for the Ohlins fork. With Brembo monoblock radial racing 4-pad calipers (titanium pistons) Brembo full-floating 320mm SBK rotors and Brembo GP radial pump master cylinders (both brake and clutch) along with Rizoma billet remote reservoirs and remote brake lever adjusment capability allows the 999R to stop as well as it goes, if not better! Rear braking is enhanced with a Moto Corse under-slung billet caliper bracket for the Brembo Endurance style P4 24 4-piston billet race caliper with a Brembo full-floating rear disc and Rizoma billet reservoir.
Following the theme of less weight, additional carbon fiber components were added - the original plastic tailsection has been replaced with factory Ducati carbon fiber pieces, along with front and rear carbon fiber fenders and trim pieces to accent the factory magnesium bits. Fully adjustable billet Acculign rearsets and shift/brake levers improve looks and rider comfort while quite a few titanium fasteners are used throughout the 999R as well as a titanium Ducati Performance fuel cap. Moto Corse Titanium radiator and oil coolers screens protect their components while looking gorgeous. The cooling system has been enhanced with a Speedymoto billet water pump housing, Samco black silicone hoses and Engine Ice coolant to keep the 999R temperatures in check during the hot and humid New Orleans riding season!
