Motogiro d'Italia 2008 - Rome to Vieste and back. This year we started in Rome, one glance at the schedule could tell you the new team organizing the event this year was taking the compitition seriously - raising it to another level if you will. Nine hour days of mountain riding would have done just that but for the first time in eight years, we had days of bad weather. The result was the toughest Motogiro d'Italia yet. Thanks to Christian Clarke and Lorainne Bockmier for their fine photos.

Next year? Bologna to the Italian Riviera!!! See you there.
This is the videographer for the event. He rode in traffic and all through the mountains making video of the race
I really was impressed with his riding skills but mostly I think he's completely crazy. I can't wait to see the DVD. I suspect I will look crazy too. :-)
Palazzo Dei Congressi. We made it.
That's the finish. It's a very famous place but mostly this was just a place to gather for the wildest dash through Rome ever. The police blocked the streets and we zoomed halfway across Rome without stopping with people on the sidewalks cheering and hanging out of windows. Blaring sirens and wheeling policebikes weaving in and out of the crowd of close to 400 bikes, it was my favorite Motogiro chaos moment to date. I was afraid my face was going to crack from smiling!
That's the prize. It'a a Ducati Cucciolo or "Lil Pup" as it's called
And a final party in the garden under the stars. One last chance to say good bye to good friends
A private fireworks show, so low it felt like you could grab them
And then it was all over but the loading. Next year we start in Bologna, something we all like because it's easy to get our bikes to and has a simple airport. The 2009 route takes us from Bologna to the Italian Riviera and back, a fantastic area to visit. (Emilia - Liguria - Piemonte, think truffles, Borolo and Asti wine and more) We are well into the planning already, my phone has been ringing all week. See you next year!
