Chihuly art glass scattered throughout one of the best botanical gardens in America under the December moonlight was a great way to enjoy one of the lazy nights in the week between Christmas and New Years. Fairchild Botanical Gardens in Coral Gables Florida is normally a "day" place but is open every Thursday night from 6 to 9 during the stay of this lovely exhibit for night viewing. Dramatic lighting, musicians scattered around the grounds and the December moonlight coupled with a 65 degree breeze made for a memorable night.
I think this lake filled with glass balls might be prettiest at sunset but it's serenity was best revealed at night.
This wood sculpture made a great contrast to the moonlit trees
Dale Chihuly might be most famous for his colorful glass towers, this is one of several scattered throughout the gardens
This was in the hothouse as well, the integration of art and foliage was really well done
They called this the "Pinata". It was illuminated from the outside (unlike many of the exhibits which are actually neon glass)and hanging from a tall tree. Like many of the sculptures it was viewable from well across the garden. I thought it would make a pretty good Star of Bethlehem.
These reminded me of the beautiful glass ceiling at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, one of the installations Chihuly is most famous for.
Each of the red spires is glass, this line is maybe 100 feet long
