Each year Ducati.net travels to Italy in the off season. Italy in November is very different than in the summer high season - different weather is just the beginning, the unique foods in season , the Christmas displays, the winter fashions, and the smaller crowds all add up to a vacation quite unlike what you get in summer. So, after the EICMA motorcycle show we took some time to enjoy Italy in winter. This years trip was a group of 15, started in Milan, moved to Florence and ended in Rome. For me, one of best things is the completely different light, the photos look nothing like summer which is what most people think of when they think of Italy. Photos and captions by Vicki Smith
The gothic style of the Duomo cathedral in Milan is one of the most spectacular churches in the world. To give you an idea of it's size, it comfortably holds 40,000 people. It's the 2nd largest cathedral in the world.

Italy is famous for it summer roses but they gow in winter as well. It was a misty day, these rose's show you how wet it got even though it wasn't really raining
The mist made the light and colors more interesting, but even more, it muted the noises of what is normally a very noisy city, making our walk around the city and park more private

My friends Bob and Birdie Lape and Rich Lambrechts pose in front of the church. Great vacations are about sharing adventures with best friends and family. This was a great vacation.
This statue made us all stop to discuss what was going on here. She seemed to be begging. It wasn't very politically correct, a relic of another time, but really beautiful none the less.
We ended up putting the map away and just walking around the city. This park is not far from the inner city train station and was surprisingly green with plenty of flowers in bloom, even though it was late November
